The FIRST LEGO League Global Innovation Award is designed to get FLL teams excited about further developing their “Body Forward Projects.”

The deadline for online voting for the teams has been extended to 5 p.m. EST, March 18.

Click on the name of a FIRST LEGO League team in the shaded box on the left of the site to learn more about the teams and to vote.

FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Legendary inventor Dean Kamen founded the program in 1989 to get youth involved with robotics, science, technology, engineering and math.

Inventors Digest conducted an in-depth interview with Kamen, where he discussed his formative years, his inventions and, of course, FIRST.

The X PRIZE Foundation is awarding up to $20,000 (USD) to one (1) winning FLL team so they can file a U.S. patent, create a prototype and get it on its way to becoming one of those “can’t live without it” inventions.

FLL teams develop amazing solutions every year to real-world problems for their Project.  Filing for a patent will help protect ideas while teams fine-tune concepts and develop a working model.  It’s also great for getting the support of others in bringing ideas to market.

Any registered FLL team from around the world may submit the innovative solution they designed for the Body Forward Project. See complete FAQs here

The X PRIZE Foundation is the leading nonprofit organization solving the world’s Grand Challenges by creating and managing large-scale, high-profile, incentivized prize competitions. Additionally, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will provide valuable feedback to the winning team and host an awards ceremony for the winners in Washington, DC.
