Inventors Digest, NCIIA to salute student innovators

As part of our yearlong salute to collegiate innovation and entrepreneurship, Inventors Digest has partnered with the NCIIA to showcase the 2010 March Madness for the Mind exhibit in San Francisco, March 26-27.NCIIA_Logo

The event at San Francisco’s Exploratorium also will serve as the launch of Inventors Digest’s 2010 Collegiate Alt-Energy Innovation Contest. The contest is part of National Inventors Month in August. College and college-bound students who develop low-cost alternative energy solutions will have a shot at cash and other prizes. Details will be announced at March Madness for the Mind.

The March event features the top innovations from the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance, a nonprofit that helps college student teams commercialize technology. About 15 teams will be selected to participate in this high-profile exhibition, open to the general public.

The application deadline is Friday, Jan. 15. Details are below. To apply, click here.

The event marks the first time Inventors Digest has teamed with the NCIIA as a media partner. Look for expanded coverage of the NCIIA and its student teams in our March issue and at InventorsDigest.com.

Also for the first time, the NCIIA will offer selected student teams a chance to win $1,000 by submitting the most compelling Web video of their innovations. Inventors Digest will be hosting the video event. We’ll post details on InventorsDigest.com in early 2010, so stay tuned.

March Madness for the Mind Application Guidelines

  • E-Teams must be affiliated with an NCIIA grantee institution to apply. This includes NCIIA Advanced E-Team grant recipients as well as student teams that have resulted from NCIIA Course & Program grants.
  • Teams should have a working prototype, or something engaging to showcase at the time of the exhibition (hands-on and interactive displays tend to draw the most media attention and interest from the public).
  • Winning teams must be available to attend the March Madness for Mind event in San Francisco. Participating team members will be expected to arrive no later than Thursday, March 25 and leave no earlier than the evening of Saturday, March 27. There will be a workshop session the morning of March 26 before the exhibition especially for MMM participants.

Additional Details

  • E-Teams will be notified whether their applications have been accepted by late January.
  • NCIIA will subsidize travel and expenses for up to two winning E-Team members to attend the exhibition. These expenses include airfare, hotel accommodations, and a small stipend for food (some meals will be provided).
