I guess you can say that everything in our world was once invented, or created, or used in a new way. People take for granted some of the greatest inventions, such as the telephone, the computer and most recently the iPod.gps-pic-1

If you stand in your kitchen and looked around, you could off the top of your head name probably at least 100 inventions just in one room of your house. Everything was once a novel invention – so everything is an invention.

When I asked my Dad, a director of business development for boating Web sites, what invention had revolutionized sailing or just brought the sport to new heights, he said the GPS, or Global Positioning System.

And when I asked why he went on to say, “because it brought a low cost but highly effective means of navigation to millions of boaters worldwide.”

The GPS was invented in the late 50’s and started as a government project brought up by NASA. Its popularity grew and it became a consumer item you could buy in the early 80’s. However, it cost more than a thousand dollars at the time. What makes this invention so powerful to look at, is now you can buy a GPS in all kinds or stores or Web sites, for around $100 dollars some even less.

Let’s look at our teen-age lives. A couple things that come to mind; music, sports, school, technology, etc. Next time I’ll take a look at the major revolutionizing inventions that have shaped our lives today.

Think about it. I’ll ask you the same I’ve asked others. What invention revolutionized the field in question? Or what invention brought this field to new heights, or a new age?
