The Native American Intellectual Property Enterprise Council (NAIPEC) has been asked by the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) to identify up to two Native American students who are interested in applying for positions in the Student Volunteer Program (SVP) with USPTO for the summer of 2011.

NAIPEC is seeking funding to support the two students for out of pocket expenses. Funding is needs based and is entirely provided as a stipend to the students to cover the expenses of lodging, travel, food, and per diem support for what are volunteer (unpaid) positions.

Unpaid internships are available through the U.S. Patent and Trademark office, but NAIPEC will provide a stipend for students who become involved in this program.  While the student will actually work, unpaid, for the USPTO, NAIPEC will compensate student for travel, lodging and per diem

QUALIFICATIONS AND EVALUATIONS

All applicants applying to participate in the Student Volunteer Program must meet the following requirements:

1. Must be a United States citizen.

2. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student at an accredited university (either an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate).

3. Must be in good academic standing.

4. If you are an undergraduate student, you must have completed at least 60 hours of credit prior to your first day of work.

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications required, applicants must also:

1. Work well in a team environment.

2. Have a working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.

3.  Have excellent writing, reading, and interpersonal skills.
