Among the guests:

Richard MaulsbyRichard Maulsby, associate commissioner for innovation development.  The USPTO veteran will provide updates on patent reform relating to inventors; talk about his relatively newly created position and some of the office’s objectives moving forward.

He also has word on two upcoming regional conferences, the Pro-Bono initiative for independent inventors and the opening of the Great American Hall of Wonders exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (read about the exhibit in this month’s issue of Inventors Digest).

Liz Dougherty, acting deputy director at the Office of Patent Legal Administration. She will discuss inventor opportunities to interact one on one with the USPTO around the country, including the conference in Pasadena, Calif., Aug 12 -13. The keynote speaker is Deputy Under Secretary Teresa Rea and National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductee Dr. Gary Michelson, as well as Mark Hatch, CEO of TechShop, to name a few.

Mindy Bickel, special program advisor and project manager for the USPTO’s Ombudsman Project will talk about the origins and aim of the program. The pilot initiative has enjoyed early success. Bickel will discuss why applicants should use this new program, as well as aspects of a new intellectual property assessment tool.
