The Michelson Institute for Intellectual Property (Michelson IP), a non-profit initiative of the Michelson 20MM Foundation, provides access to empowering IP education for budding inventors and entrepreneurs. Below, we’re sharing a list of relevant educational resources for anyone getting started on their journey to understand intellectual property.

1. The Intangible Advantage Digital Textbook
This IP guide for innovators in the making teaches budding inventors and creators the fundamentals of patents, copyright, trademarks and trade secrets, including history, policy, legal doctrine, and relevance to the innovation economy. It was written by Pulitzer Prize-nominated intellectual property expert David Kline, and former Undersecretary of Commerce and Director of the Patent Office David Kappos is the Executive Editor. 2. Intellectual Property: Inventors, Entrepreneurs, Creators Online Course
The purpose of this 4 hour online course — also based on The Intangible Advantage textbook — according to Dr. Gary K. Michelson, inventor and founder of Michelson IP, is to make information about intellectual property rights more accessible to the public. 3. The Intellectual Property Lean Canvas
Developed by the Zürich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) School of Management and Law in Switzerland, the Intellectual Property (IP) Canvas is a strategic management tool devised to help startups efficiently gain insight into how IP operates within their business by working through key questions that analyze current IP status, identify gaps, and define core elements of their IP strategies. 4. Intellectual Property Resource Guide
This guide, curated by Michelson IP, is a collection of digital tools for students, educators and/or independent inventors looking to expand their IP arsenal with additional educational materials. Learn more here.

5. The Basics of Intellectual Property Video Series
This series of short animated videos illustrates the basics of patents, copyright and trademarks using eye-catching graphics, pop culture relevant examples and accessible explanations. Fit for all ages, Grade 6 and up, these can be incorporated and embedded into courses and programs across disciplines. Check out the series on YouTube.
